Now that you know what each flavor's ingredients are, here's why they are included...

Filtered Carbonated Water

The main ingredient in JST WRK™ Energy is carbonated filtered water. We add just the right amount of carbonation to compliment the flavor without going overboard. Too much carbonation can cause gastrointestinal issues, such as gas, bloating, heartburn, etc. This is just one of the reasons why JST WRK™ Energy is the energy drink for any occasion.

Caffeine

Every 12 fluid ounce can of JST WRK™ Energy contains 200 milligrams of caffeine. Caffeine is a natural chemical that works by stimulating the central nervous system. Caffeine is one of the most well-researched substances on the market and it's been shown time and again to be both safe and effective.

Caffeine is primarily used as a cognitive enhancer because it quickly raises focus, alertness, and attentional performance. Caffeine carries out its effects by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain, which increase the release of various neurotransmitters, such as acetylcholine.

According to the FDA, up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day is considered to be safe for healthy adults, which is equivalent to two cans of JST WRK™ Energy.

Taurine

Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid that's not used in protein synthesis, but rather for optimal cardiovascular, brain, eye, and muscle function. Taurine is naturally produced in the body and present in various foods.

Taurine plays a role in numerous bodily functions, including osmoregulation, bile production, cell membrane stabilization, energy metabolism, neuromodulation, and calcium homeostasis. Taurine is most well known for its ability to boost muscular endurance and athletic performance.

Inositol

Inositol, also known as vitamin B8, is a specific type of sugar molecule that's naturally made in the body and found in a variety of foods.

Inositols act as secondary messengers in several cellular processes and also play a major role in the structural integrity of cell membranes. Inositol influences the action of insulin, the hormone that controls the amount of glucose in your bloodstream.

Not to mention, it affects several neurotransmitters in the brain including serotonin and dopamine. Long story short, inositol was added to JST WRK™ Energy to boost your mood, motivation, and productivity.

B-Vitamins

JST WRK™ Energy contains four different B vitamins including, B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride), and B12 (cyanocobalamin). Each B vitamin has its own unique benefits, but collectively, they help increase energy, enhance mood, improve memory, form red blood cells, and support healthy skin. B vitamins primarily carry out their effects by assisting other enzymes throughout the body. Not to mention, B vitamins are water soluble, so whatever your body doesn't use or need will be excreted.

Glucuronolactone

Glucuronolactone is a naturally occurring molecule that's a component of various connective tissues throughout the body. In fact, glucuronolactone is actually a component of chondroitin sulfate, a chemical found in human cartilage.

The body can naturally produce glucuronolactone by metabolizing glucose in the liver. Glucuronolactone is a popular ingredient in energy drinks because of its ability to increase attention, mood, and cognitive and athletic performance.

Flavoring System

In order to create some of the best tasting energy drinks on the market, we use various ingredients including citric acid, malic acid, natural and artificial flavors.

Citric acid is an organic compound that's naturally found in citrus fruits. Citric acid is known for its tart and sour taste. Malic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid that's also naturally present in fruits. Similar to citric acid it has a sour and tart taste.

Natural flavors are substances extracted from plants. Artificial flavors are re-produced in a lab but oftentimes have the same chemical structure as natural flavors. All of these ingredients are safe to consume. However, if you prefer only natural flavors, we recommend Shark Bite and ICEE® Blue Raspberry.

Non-Nutritive Sweeteners

Instead of loading JST WRK™ Energy with 30-40 grams of sugar, we use non-nutritive sweeteners to enhance the flavor of the drink. Non-nutritive sweeteners are substances that have no nutritional value. In other words, they do not contain any calories.

The two non-nutritive sweeteners used in JST WRK™ Energy include sucralose and acesulfame potassium (ace-K). Both of these sweeteners are amongst the most common non-nutritive sweeteners that exist.

Sucralose is unique in the fact that it's actually made from sugar. A chemical process tweaks its structure, making it calorie free and 600 times sweeter than sugar. That means you can use a lot less of it to get the same level of sweetness.

Ace-K, on the other hand, is approximately 200 times sweeter than sugar. Similar to sucralose you can use a lot less ace-K to achieve the same level of sweetness as sugar. Both of these sweeteners are approved by the FDA as sugar alternatives and considered to be safe for consumption.

Coloring Agents

In order to mimic the authentic color of an ICEE® Cherry or ICEE® Blue Raspberry slushie, various coloring agents were added, such as Red #40, Yellow #5, Yellow #6, and Blue #1.

These food dyes are human-made using various chemical substances and regulated as a food additive by the FDA. When consumed in typical quantities, human health has not been negatively impacted by artificial food dyes.
